Surface treatment involves modifying the surface of a substrate material to form a layer with distinct mechanical, physical, and chemical properties. The primary objective of surface treatment is to enhance the product’s corrosion resistance, wear resistance, aesthetic appeal, or other specialized functional requirements.

For metal machining parts, prevalent surface treatment methods include mechanical grinding, chemical treatment, surface heat treatment, and spray surfacing. The initial step in surface treatment is cleaning the workpiece surface, which involves deburring, de-oiling, and descaling.
